India: Golden Jubilee of ITEC Programme

The Embassy of India in Antananarivo celebrated, on 31st October, the Golden Jubilee (50th Anniversary) of the ITEC DAY (Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation Programme).

The ITEC programme was launched by a decision of the Indian Cabinet on September 15, 1964 as a bilateral programme of assistance of the Government of India to developing countries in Asia, Africa, East Europe, Central & Latin America, Pacific and Small Island countries. The areas covered under ITEC programme inter-alia include: Information technology, journalism, finance and audit, rural development, environment, English courses, business management, telecommunications.

Under the programme, the Government of India offers short term training courses.
Several hundred Malagasy professionals from public and private sectors have already been benefitted from this programme so far and several others will be benefitted in the years to come. The number of slots under the programme for Madagascar is increasing each year. For the year 2014-2015, it is 100, against 40 slots, 10 years ago. During 2013-14, 90 slots was utilized by Madagascar.
